Klaasen Alfred, better known by his stage name "Mogote wa Poko," is a 23-year-old Setswana poet, praise singer, producer, performer, motivational speaker, and writer.
He is from Boikhutso Village in Ventersdorp, located in the North West province. He has recorded, mixed, and mastered more than 20 poems, and he has his CD with eight solid poems titled 'Leano', and one of his most famous poems is titled 'Keatlogela’.
Mogote wa Poko views himself as an artist with an unquenchable passion filled with an ardent desire to gain fame and a raging goal to dominate the Setswana poetry industry.
He has this burning drive to rule the industry. In addition, he is known for the varied aesthetic textures and flavours that he incorporates into his poems and for advancing the expression and pride of Setswana culture through the arts to make it more fashionable.
I have successfully established my own identity in the North West Province and made a daring statement with the distinctiveness of my personality. Because of the poetry I've written about life, I've inspired thousands of people in the North West with positi"ve messages about hope, personal growth, development, and self-esteem,” he explained.
Mogote wa Poko has appeared as a solo vocalist at several renowned events, and he has also performed on the same stage as several other notable local and national acts. In 2017, he opened at Taung for the State of the Province Address (SOPA), delivered by the previous premier of the North West.
In the same year, he was awarded the Matlosana Entertainment Music's Best Poetic Artist award. The following year, in 2018, he was featured by Motsweding FM for their birthday advertisement, which was broadcast daily.
When the Ventersdorp Library opened, he performed praise singing as an opening act for the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa. He was featured by a well-known Motswako Rap Music Head, Lection, on his " LUKA " album.
In addition to being a poet, Mogote wa Poko also works as a producer at his independent record label, Tshiamo Entertainment.
In addition to performing in various regions, he has also conducted radio interviews with multiple stations, including North West FM, Motsweding FM, Aganang FM, Star FM, and Mahikeng FM, amongst many others.
"I got countless features on radio stations as a praise singer, which helped me promote my work," he added. The radio stations helped me promote my work,” he said.
Mogote wa Poko began his career in the music industry as a Motswako rapper while he was still in high school. However, he eventually focused only on poetry since he was more capable and creative. He is currently working on features as a poet, as well as production, and he is continuing to record additional poetry.
"I consider what I do to be a form of musical poetry, and I think of myself more as a motivational poet," he stated.
He considers receiving the 2022 Best Poetry Song Award at the Bokone Bophirima Gospel Music Awards and working with Tuks Senganga in production as he was developing his poem, which is still unreleased and reserved for an album, to be two of his greatest career successes.
He had a slot on AGANANG_FM for a year where he did motivational talks, he has performed at weddings, corporate events, parties, graduation celebrations, and funerals, and he is currently working on an album in his archives titled "Keatlegile," which features the likes of Mma Ausi and local artists.
