The creative arts scene in the North West region continues to thrive, with talented individuals making significant contributions. Among them is Refilwe Sediti, a songwriter, singer, and performer from Kanana, just after Klerksdorp.
After settling in Gauteng Province and establishing herself in the media and entertainment industry, it took a little while for this Afro-pop artist, now based in Soweto, to find her way into the recording booth.
Her unique vocal pitch effortlessly complements any mellow beat that comes her way, and her songwriting skills are exceptional and heartfelt.
It comes as no surprise that Refilwe’s debut album, "Lyrics of a Teenager," was well-received by the masses. The album earned her a nomination in the "Best Inspirational Song" category at the SAMRO Music Awards.
As a talented songwriter, she started penning lyrics that would give other artists their big breaks, motivating them.
Refilwe is a remarkable singer and an outstanding performer with a strong stage presence. She has graced theatres nationwide, lending her sultry voice to hit Broadway musicals like Sarafina, from the State Theatre to the Market Theatre.
She has focused on growth and development throughout her career, gaining expertise from industry veterans like Mbongeni Ngema, Baby Cele, and Nomonde Mbusi.
Her musical credits range from political parties to TV shows, but she eventually found a musical home that nurtured her career. She has showcased her artistry by performing with notable bands such as South Alkebulan and The Band Without a Name.
Now, with her collaboration with the Johannesburg-based label Jury Records, founded by Julluca Michael Motlhoki, Refilwe aims to be a voice of inspiration and love.
Fans of Refilwe Sediti are ecstatic about the news of her signing with Jury Records and the upcoming release of her singles this year. The reviews already praise her first single under Jury Records, titled "Maratong," featuring DJ Besh.
"Maratong" is a seasoned love jam incorporating modern melodic production, perfect for warming the winter breeze. This Afro-pop masterpiece serves as an anthem for all the lovebirds, reviving genuine love's joys.
Refilwe says she has done a single with Big Zulu and Mr Malungelo, which is yet to be released.
“My album is yet to be released as well before September. I have also done work with Alaska, Thebe, and MA-E from the previous group Teargas.”
“The upcoming album release includes another single titled "Hamba" featuring Mthandazo Gatya, produced by BosPianii. This track has gained significant popularity on the charts, opening doors for me in the music industry.
I'm delighted that more and more people recognise and acknowledge me due to the song "Hamba." It holds a special place in my heart, reflecting my journey through difficult times, battling depression and anxiety.
Writing this song was my way of praying and seeking healing, and I hope it resonates with others. Additionally, I plan to host a single launch event in Kanana as a gesture of gratitude to my hometown,” said Refilwe.
Many artists who have shared stages with Refilwe acknowledge her as a voice missing in the industry, eagerly welcoming her return.
