Tsaathebe Construction was allocated a R8.1 million budget to fix water infrastructures in Hellenspan village. The allocation follows the community's call for help after having water challenges for at least 15 years. The District Executive Mayor, Sense Maje, sent his office, focusing on water infrastructure, to visit the community to address and solve their water challenges.
The service provider that the Office of the Executive Mayor in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati introduced to the community of Hellenspan on September 15th last year has finished the first phase of a four-month water project. The first phase of this project is complete, the community now has seven new taps and pipes installed in chosen streets. The construction company has four tanks to completion, each holding 10 000 litres of water.
However, Ward 10 Councillor Olebogeng Ipeleng told the residents about the District's decision to give the community water infrastructure resources to help build a stand for water tanks.
This decision brought frustrations and disputes among the community members. Daniel Motebe raised the revenue allocated to this project. "We do not have a problem of receiving resources as long as they are in good condition and if the service provider will not have a problem to maintain or fix them should they give us a challenge", he said.
The District MMC of Engineering & Technical Services Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Seepapitso Seepamere, urged the community to focus on having quality water and leave out frustrations on how the District addresses the matter because the resources that the District will be providing, irrespective that they are from the other area, are still in good condition.
In addition, the District is trying to solve the water challenge in the Municipality faster. As a result, the District‘s decision to take infrastructure from one area to the next is to ensure the project is completed within seven months, as was discussed initially.
“This is a District property that is unused in Letlhapong village, and we saw it fit to take it to the other village that the District is currently helping to solve the water problem. I can assure you that the tank is still in a good state,” said Seepamere.
Seepamere stressed that the District Municipality would ensure the maintenance of all the infrastructures that may give the community any challenge after the completion of the project. “Whenever there is any infrastructure fault, the community is welcome to call and inform me of any complications. The construction company responsible for this project will account for any challenges that may arise”, he added.
