Madoda Sambatha
Last week, the North West Department of Health MEC Madoda Sambatha paid an oversight visit at Klerksdorp's Excelcius Nursing College and Gelukspan Hospital.
These visits aimed to receive updates on the progress made regarding renovations and facelifts at both institutions. Sambatha expressed that the nursing college should be sufficiently prepared r and take up partial occupation of every sight ready for utilization in the nursing college so that education is not delayed further.
“Partial occupation and proper take-over of every side completed at the nursing college should be implemented very soon to avoid further delay within the nursing education,” stated MEC Sambatha.
The Executive Council (MEC) member also visited the Gelukspan Hospital, which is also undergoing renovations. "Here, the contractor had resigned from the work they were appointed for, and the Department had accepted the resignation. The issue is how to reactivate the side and ensure that construction in Gelukspan is not delayed further. The Department will work on a (sic) practical way to resume construction on site. As to how it will be implemented must be the decision of the Department,” added Sambatha.
The MEC further stressed that by this past Monday, April 17, they (the Department) must have already known what option they would take and when it would be implemented to ensure that the site is completed on time.
The communities of Gelukspan, Nooitgedacht and surrounding villages have voiced dissatisfaction over the construction halt. It is said that construction on the hospital stopped in December 2022 and has not resumed since the new year.
