Economic Freedom Fighters’ Secretary General, Marshall Dlamini and Deputy Secretary General, Poppy Mailola, on Saturday led their party’s election campaigning at the Lichtenburg-based Ditsobotla Local Municipality in the North West. Due to the municipal council's dissolution two months ago, the struggling municipality will have by-elections the following month, 14th December. Service delivery suffered as a result of the council's instability and inability to carry out its constitutional duties.

The EFF devotes all of its attention and effort to the consultation processes with communities over the service delivery they want. Following the by-elections scheduled for next month, EFF Secretary General Marshall Dlamini expresses confidence that his party will win control of the North West's Ditsobotla Local Municipality.

“We are confident and what gives us confidence is that the people of this municipality have come to accept that the problem is not the individuals, the problem is the organisation. They have taken a decision that the organisation called the ANC will never run this municipality and the only alternative is the EFF. You can see some of them have left the ANC. We are optimistic we know we are going to do well, this is where we are going to deliver the first mayor of the EFF we’ve got no doubt about that. We are here up until the day of elections, to make sure that all wards have been looked after,” said Dlamini.

Municipality residents voiced their dissatisfaction with the government. Dipuo Molatudi, a resident of Vordwaal ward 8, expressed her concerns about the quality of service provided in the area, “the apollo lights in Vordwaal 1 and Vordwaal 2 are not working and that results in theft in our community, the roads also have potholes.”

The EFF made a significant contribution to exposing widespread corruption, nepotism, and bad administration in the municipality. This demonstrates the EFF's commitment to continuing to open full investigations into all cases of corruption that resulted in the dissolution of the municipality and poor service delivery.

The EFF pledges to provide leadership that is responsible, accountable and will progressively build the people. In this regard, on Saturday, the 26th of November 2022, the EFF North West Provincial Command Team (PCT) officials will be meeting with the tribal leadership to discuss service delivery, the future of the municipality and the intended march to the mines.

“The march will, among other things, address the social labour plan, social corporate investment and the working conditions. It’s about time that we register socio-economic milestones and create more opportunities for women and the youth. Business activities taking place in and around Ditsobotla must benefit the community and contribute meaningfully to the development and urbanisation of the concerned municipality,” said Fanon Moema, EFF North West Provincial Spokesperson.
