The 16 Days of Activism is an annual United Nations initiative that runs from 25 November (the International Day of No Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). The government is putting into effect President Cyril’s Emergency Response Action Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, which was announced in September 2019. This is due to the scourge of gender-based violence in the nation, which has been declared a national distress.
The 16 Days of Activism serves as the centrepiece of the government's all-encompassing 365 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. Calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls are made using this as an organising strategy by people and groups all over the world.
In support of this civil society initiative, the UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence Against Women campaign (UNiTE campaign) calls for international measures to raise awareness, activate advocacy, efforts and exchange information and ideas.
The global theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which will run from 25 November to 10 December 2022, is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”. A number of community and sector conversations and activities will be held throughout the 16 Days by the government, civil society and the private sector, with the effort to promote cooperation in the fight against GBVF.
