From Lomanyaneng to PSL Stardom: The Rise of Orebotse "Bobo" Mongae

Orebotse Bobo Mongae

In the world of football, success stories are aplenty, but few are as inspiring as the journey of Orebotse "Bobo" Mongae, a North West Province-born soccer player. The talented midfielder has risen from humble beginnings to grace the top leagues, capturing fans' hearts and top-tier clubs' attention.

The player from Lomanyaneng village started his professional football career with Botswana Premier League (BPL) outfit Jwaneng Galaxy F.C., where he was then loaned to Miscellaneous SC.

This midfield maestro stamped his authority in the BPL in his first professional debut under the colours of Miscellaneous SC, where he scored 17 goals.

Mongae moved to the South African Premier Soccer League's (PSL) outfit Baroka FC in 2018 from BPL. He played for Baroka F.C. until the end of the 2020 season.

Before the disruptive wave of Covid-19, Mongae's name was synonymous with Royal Eagles F.C., where he showcased his skills and mesmerised fans.

However, the pandemic altered the course of his career, leading him to the Eastern Cape, where he joined the ambitious ABC Motsepe team, BCM Stars. Together, they conquered the league and earned a ticket to the playoffs to play in the first division. Unfortunately though, victory eluded them.

Bobo's talents did not go unnoticed, and he soon found himself donning the colours of Platinum City Rovers in the GladAfrica Championship, eager to prove himself on the grand stage. A year-long contract with the option to extend beckoned, but fate had other plans.

Mongae only played for six months before an opportunity arose to join the esteemed T.S. Galaxy F.C. in the PSL during the season's second round. Since then, he has been an indispensable asset to the club, setting the field ablaze with his midfield prowess.

The new deal signed this year will see the 28-year-old stay at TS Galaxy, also known as Rockets until 2025.

Mongae has been a vital member of the Mpumalanga-based outfit, having played 32 games across all competitions in the last 2022/23 season. He has helped the side to survive the chop on a hectic final day of the DStv Premiership matches.

"This feels like a second chance," Mongae shares. "Playing in the PSL again gives me a fantastic opportunity to showcase my talent, and I couldn't be more grateful," concluded Bobo.
