Pampierstadt-born Elvis Moyo etched his name in the annals of South African Ju-Jitsu by representing his nation at the Morganti Ju-Jitsu World Championships held from October 14 to 15, 2023, in Recife, Brazil. This endeavour was no small feat, as Moyo shouldered the immense responsibility of representing both the North West Province and his beloved country while staying true to his unwavering dedication.

Moyo's tenacity and commitment were handsomely rewarded as he secured a remarkable bronze medal in the stand-up fighting category. In a testament to his prowess, he came tantalizingly close to securing another medal in the grappling category, ultimately finishing in a commendable fourth place.

Recalling his awe-inspiring journey in South America, Moyo shared, "The competition was fierce, and the pressure was on. I was representing the North West Province and the Republic of South Africa. It was a great honour to represent my discipline. I am extremely proud of my performance and grateful for the experience gained during the competition."

The championships not only added numerous medals and accolades to his collection but also imparted invaluable lessons that will undoubtedly shape his journey to even greater heights in the future.

Moyo expressed his profound gratitude to his teammates and all those who have played an integral role in his remarkable Ju-Jitsu odyssey. Moyo's remarkable journey to the international stage began with his victory in the South African national championships earlier this year. Competing in a division exclusively open to black and brown belts, Moyo faced fierce competition and clinched the gold medal.

Before his national championship triumph, he secured a gold medal in the Morganti Ju-Jitsu provincials, thereby securing his place in this year's national team selection. Moyo has ascended to the rank of brown belt in the sport in 2022 and has demonstrated exceptional proficiency in both stand-up and group fighting.

His fascination with martial arts began at the tender age of five, fueled by a deep-seated desire to acquire self-defence skills. His interest in Ju-Jitsu was further ignited by the remarkable journey of Moses Radebe, a former South African champion who had set his sights on Brazil. Elvis believes that Ju-Jitsu not only offers physical benefits but also fosters self-confidence and imparts invaluable self-defence techniques.

"In Ju-Jitsu, you are constantly learning new techniques, which equips you with the necessary skills to protect yourself in potentially threatening situations," remarked Elvis. His impressive track record includes a slew of world, national, and provincial titles in Ju-Jitsu.

In 2019, he clinched two gold medals at the World Championships held in South Africa and earned recognition as the tournament's Best Fighter, cementing his status as a bona fide Ju-Jitsu luminary.
