MEC Desbo Mohono was in Laerskool Sonop in Brits, invited by young farmers as a guest speaker for the Youth Day celebration. The Madibeng YARDSA Farmers Market hosted the event to get youth more involved in the Agricultural sector and the economic opportunities. Presentations included animal health, Plant Nutritionist, food safety, and global and local gap certification.
A food garden and other inputs were donated at the school to help tackle food security issues. The young farmers, along with the MEC, started by planting vegetables with children in the school of Sonop Laerskool.
One of the farmers said it's interesting to see many people from different walks of life getting into the farming sector without knowledge, humble themselves to learn, and eventually become successful farmers.
This flourishing farmers market came after MEC Desbo formed part of Young Farmers Indaba that, was held in FNB stadium, accompanied by 40 young farmers from four districts in the province.
