Victor Thambe, a security officer employed by the MI7 Group, has defied all odds by successfully graduating with a bachelor's degree in Education, specializing in the foundation phase, from North West University on May 15, 2023.
The NWU has contracted the services of MI7 Group, a renowned security company, to ensure the institution's safety. Victor initially joined the security company Fidelity, which was contracted by NWU in 2017. Later, he transitioned to MI7 when they took over the security responsibilities at the university.
Victor revealed that he decided to pursue a degree at the university after realizing that higher Education could be obtained at no cost with the assistance of government institutions like NSFAS and Funza Lushaka Bursary. To finance his studies, he diligently utilized National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and the Funza Lushaka Bursary. He made sure to apply for both the institution and the funding promptly.
Balancing work and studies was undoubtedly challenging for Victor, considering that his security shifts extended up to 12 hours a day. However, he persevered, motivated to prove himself to those who believed in his abilities. Additionally, he believed that success was only attainable through hard work and wanted to ensure that he completed what he had started.
“Firstly, it was not easy. Remember, as security officers, we are not allowed to sleep at night, so I told myself that I should read (do schoolwork) to stay awake. The other reason is that I hate to fail; hence I had to finish what I started. The only thing that makes people successful is hard work, "said Victor.
Representatives from the MI7 National Group congratulated Victor on his remarkable achievement and expressed their immense pride in his education degree. They emphasized that pursuing a dream requires passion and hard work, and Victor's success is a shining example of these qualities.
