The North-West University had a networking event for community involvement to strengthen ties between the university and the government at NWU Mahikeng Campus on Monday, 24 October 2022.
One of the government departments that the North-West University invited to the networking event conducted at the NWU Mahikeng Campus is the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.
During the presentation of the event's aim, Dr. Mokgadi Molope from the School of Social Sciences at the Mahikeng Campus stated that the University is rekindling its relationship with chapter 9 institutions and government departments.
These connections will help students gain experience in the fi¬eld of service training after completing their studies and they will help the relevant organisations collaborate with the university on programs and take part in and provide advice for research being conducted by the School of Social Science subject group.
Additionally, the department gave students across all of its directorates a valuable platform to showcase departmental services that have an influence on the community as a whole and possibilities that are available. Government decision-making is made more effective, legitimate and transparent when the community is involved. By welcoming and promoting involvement, it empowers decision-makers to consult with and carefully map out the needs, viewpoints and visions of local communities on topics that are important to them, encourages sustainable decisions by It acknowledging and expressing the needs and interests of all participants, including those who make the decisions. As local expertise from multiple groups forms and develops inclusive, practical solutions. This improves community commitment to outcomes and acceptance of decisions, in order to provide worthwhile services with a real impact to the community of the North West, more than 20 organisations were encouraged to offer their services and form collaborative relationships with one another.
