The influence of Mark Rosenberg’s history of mixing cultures in his journey to working in the food industry and owning a catering company is an example of how important food is to people's lives and how communities view its culture. Mark's background in Indian and racialised cultures has served as the cornerstone for his desire to express diversity using food.
Rosenberg Holdings is a hundred percent dynamic black-owned and diversified catering service business based in Mafikeng. It was started in 2019 to highlight the connection between finding and reaching one's destination according to coordinates in the physical world.
The company has a rich background in Indian food and a mission of producing high-impact products and offering a unique blend of products that produce high-impact results that leads to customer satisfaction.
“The reason I went for Indian cuisine is the background of my mother being Indian and my father being coloured. Specialising in Indian food was a way of exploring more of the Indian food’s rich flavour and various products and wanted to express it more,” said Mark Rosenberg, Owner of Rosenberg Holdings.
Food is often used as a means of retaining cultural identity. Beyond merely nourishing the body, what people eat and whom they eat with can inspire and strengthen the bonds between individuals and communities.
Rosenberg Holdings’ concept is finding a new way of producing and developing food and normalising the culture of spicy food. Food culture for Mark means bringing different cultures together, preparing food according to different cultures and learning about those diverse cultures.
“A restaurant owner needs to cater for different cultures in the area of their restaurant by offering different kinds of cuisine to accommodate customers. In Mafikeng, the largest population is the Batswana population therefore, even if I specialise in Indian cuisines, I still must cater meals that speak to the culture of the Tswana population and also bring a modern twist to the cuisines,” said Mark.
“The atmosphere I want to create is for people to enjoy the kind of food I produce, and the fact that I have received many compliments that my samosas are the best in Mafikeng reassures me of my efforts,” he continued.
Rosenberg Holdings’ vision for the future is re-engineering the hospitality industry with like-minded positive individuals who are determined to make a difference.
“Re-engineering the hospitality industry for me is offering good service because, at this moment, Mafikeng's hospitality industry is not in the best standing. I want to bring it to a stand where I ensure that my products are of good quality and that people enjoy my service,” said Mark.
What makes an excellent restaurant/catering service is time management, which also contributes to the quality of your products, friendly service, and always ensuring that your customers come first by using quality ingredients and putting your customers first.
