Deputy Minister for Small Business Development, Ms Dipuo Peters, handed over working materials and equipment to 63 Phokwane Local Municipality informal traders in Pampeirstadt on 12 May 2023.
The beneficiaries received tools and equipment such as microwaves, cooking stoves, laptops, printers, 482 litres deep freezers, deep frying pans, sewing machines, and chafing dishes. These are expected to improve and grow the beneficiaries' businesses. The handover of tools and equipment has been taking place throughout the country.
The beneficiaries are part of the Informal Micro Enterprise Development Programme (IMEDP), a 100% grant aimed at improving the sustainability and competitiveness of Informal or Micro Enterprises.
The Deputy Minister of the Department of Small Business Development, Ms Dipuo Peters, says the handover of business tools and equipment is part of the IMEDP Programme, a nationwide trajectory of the DSBD which strives to accelerate the growth of informal and micro enterprises.
“The support for small businesses will assist in addressing the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment, and inequality,".
"The National Development Plan (NDP) envisages that by 2030, 11 million jobs should be created, and 9 million must come from small businesses. The Department of Small Business Development is mandated to lead in supporting SMMEs to ensure that they contribute to job creation and economic growth," said Deputy Minister Dipuo Peters.
