The Orkney Magistrates court has postponed a case against Ward 25 ANC Councillor Tebogo Sepale (43) to November 17 for possible bail application as his attorney to compile affidavit for the bail application. The state is expected to receive documents of bail application affidavit from Sepale’s Attorney on November 8.
The accused is facing 11 provisional charges, including statutory rape, child violation with consent, manufacturing pornographic material, rape, and sexual intimidation. He appeared before the court still being represented Carolissen Lee-David, who is from the same law firm as Kobus Burger, who had previously represented Sepale.
On our previous article published on October 12, Sepale's attorney Lee Carolissen had asked the court for a postponement so that he could engage with his colleague Kobus Burger, and that the matter would require time to transfer it to the regional court for the accused's first appearance. Carolissen had also told the court that there are also arrangements between his office and Burger’s office for the implementation of formal bail applications.
On July 17, the court heard Burger say that after he consulted with his client, he then decided to abandon his bail application. Sepale’s court appearance emanates from a report by the police indicating that the Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit was investigating a case of crimen injuria and two separate counts of statutory rape after they were reported at Kanana Police Station, respectively.
In one of the cases, the suspect allegedly shared nude pictures with the complainant; in a second, separate case involving the same suspect, two counts of statutory rape were laid on May 6, by the parents of two boys aged 15 and 17. He will remain in police custody pending the outcome of his bail application.
