Rape-accused Ward Councillor unremorseful in court

The family of the fifteen-year-old boy, an alleged raped of Ward 25 councillor in the City of Matlosana Local Municipality, Tebogo Sepale (43), has expressed their dissatisfaction about the dragging of the case.

This includes how Sepale behaved inside the courtroom last week when he appeared briefly, before his case was postponed to October 4 for further investigations.

Speaking to Mo-Media outside the Orkney Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Masabata Dlamini, who is the aunt of the victim, said it breaks their hearts as the family to see smiles all over the accused's face every time he appears in court.

"What hurts us the most is the fact that the accused is not showing any remorse for what he has done. Every time he appears in court, he is smiling as if he is proud of what he has done to our children, and he is doing this knowing very well that families of the victims are in attendance," she said.

Sepale, who is facing 11 provisional charges, two for statutory rape, three for the violation of a child with consent, one for manufacturing pornographic material, four for rape and one for sexual intimidation, appeared in court without his attorney, Kobus Burger.

According to the State Prosecutor, Sabata Charlie, arrangements were made by Burger that he wouldn't be able to attend court on Thursday due to other commitments, and he asked for a postponement.

The prosecutor further said that the downloading of devices is the only aspect outstanding regarding the investigations in Sepale's case.

As a result of an agreement between the prosecutor and the attorney, the court decided to postpone the case to October 4 for further investigations and a possible bail application. Sepale will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
