The North West Department of Education announced that Tebogo Mokwene, Kgomotso Pilane and Lesego Mokotedi have been selected to attend a seminar in China from October 15 to November 4. This sojourn comes immediately after World Teachers' Month, where former principal, Agnes Rasesemola, went to represent the North West Province in a panel of discussion comprising other international prize laureates at the UNESCO Headquarters held in Paris on October 5 and 6.

The seminar is part of a teacher capacitybuilding programme conceptualized by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Chinese Embassy, where 25 Maths experts from different parts of the country were chosen to attend based on their participation in an online programme in 2022. The seminar will allow the teachers to learn about the latest trends and best practices in Mathematics education in China.

They will also have the opportunity to network with Chinese teachers and officials. Affectionately known "Jobe wa Maths", Mokwene and Pilane are both NTA winners for 2019 (FET and GET) and experts in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District. Ms Mokotedi is the Deputy Principal of Mafenya Primary School in the Bojanala District.

The MEC for North West Department of Education Viola Motsumi is proud to have three of her teachers selected to attend this prestigious seminar who are part of the “cream of the crop”. Motsumi said: "I am confident that our teachers are part of this wonderful opportunity. They will benefit greatly from the experience of having shared best practices with cream-of-the-crop lateral thinkers, and they will return to South Africa with new knowledge and skills that they can share with their colleagues and students."

The North West Department of Education wishes them all the best.
