In a promising development, Manyane Game Lodge in Mahikeng is gearing up for a major transformation after receiving the green light from the National Department of Tourism for its revival. The Mayoral entourage, led by Elliot Moncho, the Mayoral Spokesperson, inspected the lodge on Monday to mark the official commencement of the ambitious project.
Moncho said: "The National Department of Tourism has identified Manyane Game Lodge as a crucial project under its Tourism Infrastructure Development Programme. The lodge's scope has been finalised, and all necessary processes have been concluded. "The municipality is now eager to facilitate a meeting with all stakeholders to officially hand over the site and kickstart the revitalization."
The Executive Mayor Tshepiso Mphehlo spoke about the importance of local involvement in the project. "The appointed service providers must ensure that they source local labourers, working closely with the Ward Councillor under the guidance of the Project Steering Committee. No individual or group should be allowed to hinder this exciting development that addresses the challenges of accommodation in Mahikeng," said the Mayor.
He also committed to advocating for an increased budget to extend the revival efforts to the conferencing infrastructure at Manyane. The project's objectives align with supporting and uplifting local communities through tourism development, providing job opportunities for both temporary and permanent positions, contributing to regional economic development, and promoting the geographical spread of tourism investments.
The scope of work to be implemented includes among others, the refurbishment of 20 standard chalets, refurbishment of nine executive chalets, reconstruction of one executive chalet, refurbishment of the existing 50-seater Conference Hall, restoration of the water reticulation system, restoration of the electrical reticulation system, refurbishment of the swimming pool, completion of the existing restaurant, refurbishment of the Guard-house, Pond and Billboard.
There are also repairs to be done on the paving, landscaping, and security fence as well as the replacement of the boundary fence. The allocated projected budget is R 24 963 049.01 (VAT inclusive). The project duration is 11 months while the funds were sourced from the National Department of Tourism.
The initiative promises not only to rejuvenate Manyane Game Lodge but also to create a positive impact on the local community by generating employment opportunities and boosting economic growth. With a clear vision and committed stakeholders, Mahikeng anticipates a revitalized and thriving tourism hub soon.
