In the world of soulful melodies and uplifting lyrics, Lebogang Jackson Ntsoti, better known by his stage name Tehilla, he stands as an inspiration through his transformative music. Originating from Khuma in Klerksdorp, North West Province, Tehilla's musical journey transcends borders, resonating with audiences worldwide.
Yet, the roots of his melodic prowess trace back to his formative years in Matatiela, Eastern Cape - a place he fondly refers to as his home away from home. Growing up surrounded by the harmonious cadence of church hymns, Tehilla's connection with music ignited, with the piano becoming his vessel of expression.
Quickly evolving into a singer-songwriter and master of ceremonies, Tehilla draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of artists, spanning from the Jaziel Brothers to gospel icons like Bishop Benjamin Dube. Tehilla's unique sound is a harmonious blend of contemporary gospel and Afro-pop, reflecting the rich influence in his musical journey.
While his early musical journey involved navigating various music groups, learning from his arguably rocky journey in the music scene following the failure of his debut album in 2008, Tehilla chose to focus his energy on being a contemporary gospel recording artist, fusing Afro-pop and contemporary gospel. The fusion of Afro-pop rhythms with gospel themes became his signature, breathing new life into his musical narrative.
Tehilla's stage presence has graced audiences alongside renowned acts such as The Soil, Jaziel Brothers, Benjamin Dube, and Israel Mosehla, among others. He has shared the spotlight at the Carnival City during the Crown Gospel Awards Celebration, serving as the opening act for award-winning gospel artist Mawat. In Tehilla's musical philosophy, positivity and encouragement take centre stage.
His music, he believes, transcends denominational boundaries, aiming to uplift and inspire people from all walks of life. His debut gospel album, "Simply Worship", released in 2017, is a testament to this ethos, produced by the talented Klerksdorp producer AB Mofokeng. Looking ahead, Tehilla envisions expanding his musical horizons.
"My music has gravitated to more live sound. It's about encouragement, hope, and love. I plan to venture into the realm of afro-jazz, adding another dimension to my already diverse repertoire. Additionally, I aspire to contribute his songwriting talent to fellow artists in South Africa,” said Tehilla.
