The resumption of the trial against the four convicted murderers of the late North West businessman Wandile Bozwana co-incided with the brutal murder of his mother in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Nopopi Bozwana, 77, was found lying in a pool of blood at her home in Mothibistad, Kuruman, in Northern Cape.

This after she was allegedly hit with an iron rod on the head, allegedly by a Mosotho national. According to Nopopi's other son, Benedict Bozwana, the discovery was made after their mother's back opposite neighbour came face to face with a stranger, who was carrying a huge bag and locked Nopopi's house door.

"Our back opposite neighbour, Buttie Bashi, who always assisted my mother in the shebeen, found an unknown Mosotho national with a huge bag and was busy locking the door. When Bashi asked him who he was, and what he wanted, the man simply said that Manox (Nonopi's nickname) had left him to take care of things while she (Nonopi) went to do some errands, and he quickly vanished off, telling Bashi that he was in a hurry and he was coming back," stated Bozwana.

Bozwana further explained that the suspicious Bashi then went to his cousin (Dala Bozwana)'s place, who stays in the same street with the deceased. The family spokesperson also stated that they suspected that the robber/intruder arrived after their sister, who works at the local municipality, had already left for work.

Bozwana added that upon reaching Dala's house, it was then that they (Bashi and Dala) decided to contact the police. This was because Dala did not buy the story that his aunt left someone to take care of her business. After police had forcefully broken the door open, it was then that they discovered an iron rod next to his mother, who was lying in a pool of blood with a wound on the head.

"We found the house ransacked upside-down and discovered that some of my mother's important belongings were missing. Amongst those were her car and home keys, bank cards, ID, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money," added Bozwana.

Since the death of Wandile Bozwana in an apparent hit in Pretoria West in 2015, his mother is the fourth member of the Bozwana family to be killed.

Two of Bozwana's brothers were also killed at different places in North West Province. The first one was killed in Vryburg in 2017 while the other one was killed in Zeerust in 2021. Benedict emphasised that Bashi was determined that the culprit was a Mosotho national based on his accent when he answered his questions.

The culprit is still at large and all efforts to get confirmation from the SAPS proved fruitless as the Northen Cape as thespokesperson's phone rang unanswered and she did not return the text messages Mo Media sent to her.
