In a ground-breaking move that promises to reshape the landscape of women's boxing in South Africa, Mahlatsi Sediane, a boxing promoter from North West Province, is on the cusp of establishing herself as a prominent figure in the male-dominated sport.

Her pioneering venture, African Child Boxing Promotion, is gearing up to host an exclusive women-only boxing tournament at Klerksdorp's Banquet Hall on Saturday as part of a broader effort to rejuvenate boxing in the North West. With a visionary outlook that aims to empower and elevate women within the boxing world, Sediane is poised to impact the sport's gender dynamics significantly.

The forthcoming event promises thrilling bouts and offers a pivotal platform for emerging talent to shine. While women's boxing in South Africa has been steadily gaining popularity, it is grappling with challenges, such as limited exposure and opportunities. Sediane has set her sights on changing this narrative by providing an exclusive stage for female boxers to showcase their skills, determination, and the untapped potential within the province.

A clear mission drives African Child Boxing Promotion: to promote and uplift women in boxing. By organising a women-only tournament, she is creating a powerful platform for female boxers and sending a resounding message about gender equality and empowerment. Anticipation is mounting for the tournament set to take place in the City of Matlosana Local Municipality, in Klerksdorp, with both boxing enthusiasts and the media eagerly awaiting the event.

The tourney will feature exceptionally talented female fighters from South Africa and beyond, each poised to demonstrate their mettle in the ring. Sazisiwe Simon and Nosiacwase Dube will headline the six-bout bill with a 10-rounder for the North West bantamweight title. Sediane recognises the importance of representation and is deeply committed to this cause.

"Through the organisation of a women-only tournament, I am amplifying the voices and talents of female boxers, who have often been overshadowed in a male-dominated arena. This event is bound to inspire aspiring fighters and pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the sport," said Sediane.

She emphasises the rich boxing history of the North West Province, noting that it has been home to legendary figures like the late Norman "Pangaman" Sekgapane from Tafelkop in the Koster District. Sediane highlights that the province has yet to witness a significant boxing event in recent years, and she aims to reignite its passion for the sport.

The last big boxing fight in the province was the IBF junior lightweight belt between Cassius Baloyi and Malcolm Klassen, which was staged by Gauteng-based Yugoslavian Branco Milenkovic at North-West University Sports Complex in Mahikeng, on April 18, 2009. The other fight was a celebrity bout staged last year in Sun City between musician Cassper Nyovest and actor and musician NaakMusiQ.

In her pursuit of promoting women in boxing, Sediane's dedication and vision are commendable. She envisions a future where opportunities are abundant and barriers are broken down. The women-only tournament at Rio Casino in Klerksdorp represents more than just a boxing event; it's a powerful statement of empowerment, progress, and gender equality within the ring.

Sediane's efforts are poised to revive boxing in the North West and inspire positive change in the world of sports.
