MEC Molapisi addressed dignitaries in Bojanala as he officially launched Provincial October Transport Month. Governments’ focal point is to showcase infrastructure and service delivery on all modes of transport inclusive of economic bene¬fits to communities.

Different road infrastructure projects will be rolled out across the province this fi¬scal year. Eight of the roads will be upgraded from gravel to surface standards projects, three of which are in Ngaka Modiri Molema, three in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and two in the Bojanala district. Four rehabilitation projects will be implemented, making it an overall of twelve projects with a total budget of R1.7 billion for the 2022/23 financial year.

Moreover, a total of thirty-two maintenance projects which will be implemented through the PRMG with a total budget of just over R439 million are also underway. These projects are aimed at creating over twelve thousand work opportunities in the road infrastructure sector and creating economic opportunities for our local SMMEs where these projects are created at an estimated cost of R390 million.

It is worth noting that the economic benefit is mostly earmarked for women, youth, and people living with disabilities, inclusive of skills development.

“We have also launched operation Kwalakaofela or Valazonke to repair all potholes in the province by end of March 2023,” Molapisi said. This project will be run with internal resources, that of human capital, own machinery and equipment. The budget set aside for this task is R122,8 million.

The MEC explained that in the 2022 OTM, 8 projects will be showcased, 4 completed projects which will be handed over to communities, and 4 projects will be conducting sod turning.

MEC Molapisi proudly exclaimed, “We are gathered today to celebrate the milestone of successfully completing this road project, Phase 2 of Road D1263 from Brits to Sonop, with your community members, all our guests, road users, and stakeholders.” A total investment of R105 million was spent on this project. The MEC closed by thanking the local municipality for their support and leadership provided. “Your cooperation as the community in ensuring that the project is successfully completed. We also thank Bogosi jwa rona, for their support. It is only when government, the public, and business work together in a collaborative manner that we are able to build better communities through developing road infrastructure that builds lives and livelihoods. Let us enjoy the road. We will ensure the upkeep of it” concluded Molapisi.
