North West artists sparkle at SATMA awards 2023 in Durban

Talented artists from the North West Province are gearing up to make their mark at the SATMA's 2023. The event, which promises to have surprises in store, is scheduled to take place on Friday, December 15 in Durban. The event promises to be a celebration of cultural diversity and musical excellence, with North West representatives competing in five diverse categories. The excitement is not just confined to the artists; fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating the results, and they have the power to influence the outcome.

Voting is open to the public, and supporters can cast their votes for their favourite nominees by sending an SMS with the unique code of the nominee to 49495. The voting process allows fans to participate actively and show their support for the artists they believe deserve the accolades. Among the categories that North West artists are contending for, the "Most Voted Song of the Year" boasts impressive nominees, with MmaAusi leading the pack.

The competition is fierce, and fans have the power to influence which song will clinch the coveted title. In the "Best Setswana Artist/Group" category, the North West is well-represented with nominees like Mamakie Motlogelwa (117SATMA18), Nomtiti 9 - Seileng Seile (119SATMA18), Thebe Arts Group (TAG) (120SATMA18), Boitumelo (121SATMA18), and MmaAusi (122SATMA18). Each nominee brings a unique flavour to Setswana music, making the category one to watch. The "Best Traditional Music SABC Radio Presenter of the Year" category features Tebogo Joseph Hotane (162SATMA18), showcasing the diversity of talent not only in performance but also in radio presenting.

Mamakie Motlogelwa (30SATMA18) is also nominated in the "Best Upcoming Artist/ Group" category, highlighting the promising talent emerging from the North West region. In the "Best Reggae Artist & Group" category, Chomza (19SATMA18) proudly represents North West, bringing reggae vibes to the forefront of the awards. SATMAs are pitched at a national level as they speak to all races and cultural diversification in our country SATMA's has also honoured artists like Mirriam Makeba, Dolly Rathebe, Phuzushukela, Nofinishi Dwili, Mahlathini Nkabinde, Soul Brothers, Nothembi Mkhwebane and many other Legends and Icons in our music industry.


SATMA Awards also honours individuals who promote the use of our indigenous languages in different fields like the comedy and Film sector, including writers. As the SATMA's draw near, anticipation is building, and supporters are encouraged to cast their votes and make their voices heard.
