The ultimate talent search grand fi¬nale took place at Rio Hotel and Casino in Klerksdorp on the 29th of October 2022. Mmabana Arts, Culture and Sports Foundation’s objective is to unearth, develop and support the arts and this spectacular event attested to this.
“The Ultimate” talent search programme is a unique brand that was introduced with a specific focus on identifying, developing and giving exposure to up-and-coming solo musicians between the ages of 18 and 35. The programme contributes towards the development of the creative sector in the North West Province as per the entity’s legislated mandate.
The top 12 contestants from the four districts were able to showcase their talents at Mmabana Mahikeng Gymnasium on the 21st of October 2022. The audience was then able to experience why the dozen were selected from hundreds of artists to compete at the prestigious finale.
Celebrity judges Fifi¬ Cooper, Kuli Chana and Thasman had a challenging task in making their final decision. Thapelo Tau, a gospel artist reigned triumphant as the winner. Social media users quickly took the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction and disappointment regarding the judging process.
One user said, “The winner made it with a song he didn’t even write, this is not fair on the other artists because rules and regulations were put in place.” Another said, “I’m really disappointed.” Others showered Thapelo Tau with congratulatory messages and words of encouragement on his victory. No comment was made by the foundation.
